Do you really know what’s in your nail polish?

So let’s be real. Every girl loves nail polish.

But did you know that each time you give yourself a fresh new coat that you could be painting chemicals on your hand that contribute to diseases such as CANCER?

Don’t get me wrong, playing with different colors on your finger are fun and it adds to your personality (which is exactly why I refuse to give it up).

But when you use typical drug-store nail polishes you are truly risking your health and you should know the chemicals that you are painting into your bloodstream.

There are three major chemicals that are seen in nail polishes:

1.) Formaldehyde: Formaldehyde is typically used as a preservative but its an extremely dangerous carcinogen (a cancer causing chemical). It has been directly liked to nasal and lung cancers and it should NEVER be ingested.

2.) Dibutyl Phthalate: This chemical is used to help nail polishes to prevent themselves from chipping. The chemical is banned from being used in Europe due to the reproductive issues that is causes, but for some reason is still allowed to be used in the U.S.

3.) Toluene: This chemical is used to help give nail polish a smooth and clean feel. However, it has side effects such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, and eye irritation. This chemical also causes birth defects if expectant mothers paint it on their nails.

So if you use traditional nail polish, your probably thinking all of the times that you painted your nails last month and want to grab the closest detox tea available to you. However, DON’T fret, I have a solution!

There are so many AMAZING natural nail polishes out there! You just need to know where to find them.

Wholes Foods has a ton of vegan, natural, and chemical free nail polishes (that in my opinion have even stronger pigment that the ones developed from chemicals. Even Ulta ( a popular beauty store in the U.S ) carries select natural nail polishes. Today I am wearing Mineral Fusion, which is an amazing natural brand that carries nail polishes, hair products, and makeup. If your not able to find their products at a store near you, you can purchase your favorite polish shades online at In this featured image, I am wearing the shade blushing crystal because I am really into the shabby-chic look right now and this shade just fits! Here are two other natural nail polish brands that I love

SpaRituals ( ) and Zoya ( ). The Zoya pixie dust polishes are a must. Ill post my favorite shade on Instagram soon.

But until then, feel free to ask me how you can find polishes that are just as safe as they are vibrant and fashionable! You deserve to be your healthiest and best you!
