I know what it feels like to be uncomfortable in your own skin. I know how difficult it can be to feel like you are doing everything that you can to be healthy and you are still not seeing results.
~ But what I also know is that with determination and true perseverance, even over the time span of a few years, is how you see true results.
- Being concerned with your health is a lifestyle that the majority of people are not BOLD enough to live. Some people are afraid of the information that is lying on your doctor’s clipboard and would just rather ignore it than face the facts.
I use this blog to inspire others to be their best selves, whether it is through feeling like you have a new sense of confidence from trying out my tips, learning how to feel comfortable in your own skin, or even just having the chance to read blog posts from someone who has "been there" and is truly nonjudgmental.
Today’s health tip is about a supplement called a probiotic.
~ If you are feelings frustrated with your weight and you have been truly putting forth your best effort in both the exercise and healthy eating department and have not seen results over a period of a few months, I recommend trying a probiotic supplement. Of course double check with your doctor before you take any supplement.
So what is a probiotic?
A probiotic allows you to ingest healthy bacteria that helps you to break down your food. They help to ease the digestion process for your stomach. If your body is struggling to break down food you may be left feeling bloated or feeling sick after meals from not being able to digest your food properly. Again, this is directed at someone who truly believes that they are eating healthy, as stomach discomfort often occurs from eating unhealthy foods.
So how do probiotics really aid in weight-loss?
Here is a small blurb from Women’s Health Magazine …
For the study, researchers from Laval University in Quebec instructed 125 overweight men and women to follow a 12-week weight-loss diet, followed by a 12-week maintenance period. Half of the participants also swallowed probiotic pills every day, and the other half got placebo pills.
What happened? After the 12-week weight-loss period, the women who took the probiotic pills had lost 9.7 pounds, on average, while the women who took the placebos only lost 5.7 pounds. And then, after the 12-week maintenance period, the women who took the placebo pills maintained a stable weight—but the probiotics group continued to slim down, losing 1.8 more pounds, on average. By the study’s end, the women in the probiotics group also had less of the intestinal bacteria related to obesity in their systems. Interestingly, the probiotics didn’t have a significant effect on the men in the study.
Study authors believe that probiotics may help you slim down because they make your intestinal walls less permeable. As a result, fewer of the molecules that may contribute to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and glucose intolerance are able to enter your bloodstream. To get the slimming effect, the researchers suggest eating more foods that contain probiotics (like yogurt) and following a healthy diet that’s low in fat and high in fiber.
So what probiotic do I recommend?
~ Inner-eco makes one of the most nutrient packed probiotics on the market. They use real young coconut water as the base of their probiotic, which has endless health benefits. Just to name a few, young coconut water helps to promote weight-loss, aids in managing your blood pressure, and is a super vitamin for your skin. It is completely sugar free, gluten-free, soy-free, and non-gmo. And it is of course packed with the natural bacteria that you need to break down your food healthily.
Inner-co also carries the product in berry and plain flavor, however, I prefer the tropical flavor. It tastes like a mixture of pineapples and coconut. The texture is similar to soda. It fizzes when you first open the bottle and each bottle contains about 30 servings.
Cheers to healthy bacteria!
